A shaver doesn't replace a clipper or trimmer. It's the finishing tool that gives bald fades and head shaves a smooth, skin-level result without a razor.
What barbers value most in a shaver
- A close, smooth finish. The whole point of a shaver is the last step of a bald fade. If it leaves stubble behind, it isn't doing its job.
- Low irritation. Clients with sensitive skin or razor bumps notice immediately. A foil shaver is gentler than a blade on most skin types.
- Foils that last, and are cheap to replace. Foils wear out with daily shop use. Barbers favour shavers whose replacement heads are easy to buy locally.
- Easy to clean. Every client means brushing out and disinfecting the head. Removable heads make that faster.
- Cordless runtime. Like clippers, a shaver should get through a busy day without cutting out mid-finish.
Common complaints to avoid
- Pulling on coarse hair, which usually means the foils are worn and due for replacement
- Hot heads after long use, so look for a shaver built for shop use rather than once-a-day home shaving
- Replacement parts that are hard to find, which is common with imported shavers
The FXDE option
The FXDE Triple Foil Shave is R1,499.99. Its three-foil head is designed for the finishing pass on bald fades and head shaves. Replacement Tri-Foil blades are R249.99 and are stocked in South Africa, so a worn head doesn't take the shaver out of service.
